CONFIGURATION TIPS
# 1: Please add the following line to your AUTOEXEC.CFG file in the Kingpin directory, you can edit this file with NOTEPAD. These lines will allow you to download new maps & skins, and allows console access via the ~ key. CL_MAXFPS can be tuned to your liking, but 30 seems to work fine on my machine. CL_MAXFPS will keep your PC from over drawing frame-per-second, which can help speed things up. On some levels I was getting 90+ FPS until i capped it to 30. I do NOT recommend setting below 20, but hey it's your computer.
SET CL_ALLOW_DOWNLOADS 1
SET DEVELOPER 1
SET CL_MAXFPS 30
# 2: Flashlights DO work, normally bound to the "L" key. You must pick one up,and turn it on--press TAB to check your inventory if you are unsure. Some video cards do not seem to be displaying them properly. TNT/TNT2/Voodoo 3 are known to be working fine, though some TWEAK settings in AUTOEXEC.CFG may disable them.
# 3: Go get a 3-button mouse with the middle having a roller-wheel. We like to have our middle button configured for: +activate and +reload; great for opening doors and reloading at the same time. We configure our roller-wheel with our favorite weapons so that our hands never leave the arrow keys/mouse.
# 4: Change your LEFT ARROW to LEFT STRAFE and RIGHT ARROW to RIGHT STRAFE, then use your mouse for normal RIGHT/LEFT movement. Sounds strange at first, but once you get the hang of it you will never go back. This is the keyboard+mouse configuration we have been dominating with since Doom II.
# 5: Ever get a "skin BODY_???/HEAD_???/LEGS_??? not found on server" message when playing on a [BC] server? Take a few seconds, drop to console and type "skins". This will list everyone's skins, then you can ask them to email the skins to us. We load'em all!
# 6: Need help with the original single player game, or want to try some weird console commands? Retail episode listing. All 429 console commands for KP - some are still unknown.
# 7: If you have one of those newer fancier mice with more the 3 buttons you can bind those buttons to functions. These "binds" are stored in your config.cfg file. (Thanks to [edge]scream for this tip)
bind mouse4 "+reload"
bind mouse5 "+activate"
bind mouse6 "whatever"
