I was suppose to review some new maps but never seem to get a chance to play any, seems everyone cant get enough of Armagon or Bloody_Clouds/jr. Maybe if we ask nicely the powers that be might set up a Armagon tournament in the new year. I'll be reviewing a bunch a new maps shortly and get back to you on them next update.

I would'nt mind a little team play myself ...... take on those nasty <FUK> boys :)

The RENDERMAN stats are down and we have know idea when they will be back up.You can click on the CLQ link and get some player stats, its not as much information as RENDERMAN but its something.

If anyone knows how to configure AEStats and can emails in the setup files, we will be able to run player stats locally.

Santa has been spotted fragging on the [BC] server, guess he needs a little R&R before the big night. So log on and  give O'll Saint  Nick a  beating.

A lot of players have been asking why is the game so laggy, it has more to do with net traffic, the time of day, how far you are from the server and of course how your connected to the internet, then it is the server...So remember if your lagging chances are everybody else is to, so no one really has an advantage and the out come will be based on player skill. People with 56k dial up will have to play a little harder but it can be done. Fallen_Tallon always one of the top 10  WHEN HE PLAYS :)

Yes Mrs.Chuck[BC] is my better half, and i know  she kicks my ass so quit telling me.

A belated welcome to Ozzy[BC] who joined a while back, he endures one of the highest pings of any player playing, yet gives it his all every game he plays.  He's gonna be a killer when he gets a faster connection.

Hmmmm.... Wondering where the hell the news is??? Me too... Actually I have just been to freaking busy. I really hate the winter holiday season sometimes... Mid-November to Mid-January is complete chaos for me. Never enough time to get anything done, let alone do important things like play Kingpin.

Most of our server's regular players including all my teammates know that I have managed to play KP only 3 days of the last 15. Maybe I will get some more play time in this weekend.

We have loaded several new maps in the last month: BC's Bloody Clouds Junior, Bodies, Deathmatch, Smackdown, OSTarena, and Rout Unfortunately none of them stand out as impressive levels... fun yes, impressive not really.

As usual we load any and all custom skins we can find... one of these days I need to organize and make a skin pack file, because I know we have at least 75-100 skins not found anywhere else...

SIDE NOTE #1: Unreal Tournament is pretty god-damn impressive, and internet play works unlike that multi-player disaster called Unreal. I really like Domination and Deathmatch with Fatboy Mutators.
SIDE NOTE #2: Half-Life: Oppossing Force is a must buy. HL was the best damn single player game last year, and this expansion pack is worth every penny.
SIDE NOTE #3: Picked up Quake III: Arena on the way home for an outrageous $54.99 @ BestBuy, good thing I had a gift certificate to spend. Haven't had time to play it yet.

Do UT or Q3:A mean an end to our server?? Not in the forseeable future. Feel free to stop by the most famous KP server in the world. We STILL run more maps than anyone else... drop in and get your ass kicked!

A big warm welcome to: TommyBlack[BC], Chuck[BC], and Mrs.Chuck[BC] who have joined our ranks. These three have played quite regularly since the beginning of time, and are good natured killers.

No... there are no more openings in [BC] at this time. Actually Truzenzuzex[BC] says there is one spot reserved for that HMG hugging, Bacon eating, flame-thrower fearing, ice hockey pucking, Canadian sharp shooter... you know who you are... whenever you are ready, we are waiting.

Truzenzuzex[BC] has just finished uploading all the maps we reviewed this weekend to the master map server. You can find them in the DM, BM, and BETA dirs located at PV-MA.

Our leader Truzenzuzex[BC] is taking a sabbatical this week. The lucky dog is heading to Phoenix Arizona to watch the Winston Cup NASCAR races (Nov 5-7)... Have fun.

Wolfman[BC] and Freddy[BC] will be handling the day-2-day running of the game server as needed. Truzenzuzex[BC] has left it in auto-pilot, but you never know. Don't expect too many new web site changes or new maps while he is gone, we try to stay out of the dirty work as much as possible. Just come on by and enjoy the fragging... We currently have around 110 maps in the playlist now.

Sorry for the lack of updates this week. Insanity this week...

Dumb-ass of the week award, let me set the situation. My partner and I are doing a tape backup (via remote control) for our NT4 server which serves as our corporation's public internet website. At 387 meg into the backup it fails. A quick look at the tape log says "tape not in drive" error message. First thought is tape went bad, so we haul our asses upstairs to where the NT server lives. Shit, the entire external SCSI tape drive is missing. Another Novell Admin decided he needed to borrow it, which he has been told is NOT his tape unit to borrow. Needless to say a large amount of profanity was spewed his direction. Profanity in the work place? Unprofessional you say? You are probably right, but outright INCOMPETENCE far exceeds our minor crime of bad language. If someone can tell me it is okay to unplug a external SCSI tape unit with the power on, tape in MID-stream backup, and PC up and running then I might excuse this individual. I didn't think so. Now, onto the good stuff -- Kingpin!
NOTE: 6 months later upon contract renewal for this individual, he was not renewed. Boo-hoo! Snicker... -->

Many thanks to Papa the head coder on our favorite lil Competition-MOD; we are currently running v1.295beta-D. He has been very responsive to our requests and nags. Map voting is 99% working, with random maps displayed based on popularity. The spectator bug that was in version 1.20 has been fixed, although several BAD people abused the bug for several days. For those server admins NOT running this MOD you should be. It allows: map voting, electable admins for match play, random maps, MOTD, MOTD per map, name BANing if desired for trouble makers, rejoin a level and keep your stats if you get disconnected, and we are working with Papa to get GSLog'ing working; there are many more features i have left out. We highly recommend the current v1.25 and keep an eye out for the upcoming 1.30.

DMX (dmx.bsp) --- by LOCO=3DFX= : Got this in the mail late Saturday. A nice little square DM map, 4 entrances, ramps at all entrances leading to walkways above and across. We played quick and dirty on this one and I highly recommend it.

DinoPark (dinopark.bsp) --- by Dictracy : Well. Let me get the good things out first. Very nice details, great work. Remember Jurassic Park? Well this is Dino Park. Designed to look like the JP compound, with labs, egg warmers, big ass doors leading to the island jungle, etc. Problem is the R_SPEEDS average around 2500, with some spots exceeding 6500! This map would be much better off converted to a Single Player experience, unless something can be done to fix the R_SPEEDS. We have several popular maps on our server that average 1000+, but averaging 2500+ crushes even those on high-end P3's. I hope the author takes a stab at fixing this map because it did look nice, just played very very slow due to high R's...

Gothikka-beta2 (goth1b.bsp) --- by LOCO=3DFX= & ControL=3DFX= : Received beta#2 (the last we think) and this map really looks nice. Now includes some new textures, and sounds to add to the atmosphere. This map is a above ground and underground romp through crypts, graves, and abandoned spooky houses. A nice fit for Halloween. Not sure we will see the FINAL in time for Halloween due to the large compile time this map needs, but we can hope.

Team KP-Well2 (team_kp_well2.bsp) --- by Hogie : This is a team/bagman map, but we played it in DM mode anyhow. Okay, it is too damn big for 8 players, but we knew that. A nice split layout, even for both teams, and some very nice details. A nice bridge connects and separates both sides, providing some nice confrontation. Play this in Bagman mode and enjoy.

Junkyard-beta3 (jy3.bsp) --- by A.Youngblood : This is beta #3 from Adam and not a bad concept. I believe some of the map is extracted from some of the stock KP single player levels. A junk yard, piled cars, and ladders leading up top to building hide-outs. This map is FAR from finished, no juniors, edges of map incomplete, but not bad. Hopefully Adam will follow through and make a nice finalized map.

IcemaN-beta2 (IcemaN_1a.bsp) --- by IcemaN : A nice enclosed map. Fighting through rustic hallways. Good details, great gameplay, good R_SPEEDs... We enjoy this one, looking forward to the final. A secret room is accessed through a small lava pit.

Nowhere to Hide-beta2 (nowhere-beta2.bsp) --- by myassaint@home.com : A nice small arena map. A rectangular map, with high-walkway walls on the edges. Shitloads of weapons at every turn. Beta#2 added a small battlearena platform 60 feet above the main floor. Personally I liked beta#1 as i was not distracted by the thugs from above. Either way this map will generate 100 frags in less than 20 mins without a doubt -- something we enjoy immensely. Play now, and grab the final when it arrives.

ComplexBeta (complexbeta.bsp) --- by (Red)J.Frost : I believe this is a Q2-conversion. Frost is using some of Opti's textures, and the map has a distinctive look.. not a KP look, but crisp and clean. Map plays very well, with 4-5 lil hidey hole/secret spots. A good map to add to your playlist.

NappaVille Bar Brawl 2 (NappaVilleBRB2.bsp) --- by RWCharlie : Another fist full of crowbar fun! This map is a nice detailed bar with pool tables, bar stools, and bathrooms. The weapon of choice for this level is your crowbar, okay, it is the ONLY weapon aside from your pistol. Many people seem to flee this level after 2-3 mins shouting "this sucks" -- I can only say "shutup, and take my crowbar upside your head AGAIN" These alternate crowbar maps are a nice change of pace during a course of high fragage. I can help but giggle when i thrash some thug with my crowbar while he "thinks" he can kill me with his pistol. Grab this and enjoy.

Insane Asilum (insaneasilum.bsp) --- by RWCharlie & (Red)J.Frost : This map features some serious colored lighting... heck, I love the rainbow colors evident in many areas. This map features a asylum compound, with all kinds of crazy layouts. Mysterious flames seem to "live" in the doorways leading the middle compound battle area. A nice skateboard half-pipe area leads to a mini-HMG tower. A small pool with and HMG and armor are nearby. Weapons are abundant, and the R_SPEEDS get a bit high in some spots, but this map really is fun to play. Some great long distance HMG kills can be had, along with a fragfest of grenade kills (my fav). Grab and enjoy.

Team TC 04 (team_tc_04.bsp) --- by TanyaCheex : Huge does not begin to describe this Bagman map. How about fucking huge. I seriously think you could run a 32 player Bagman map on this with little trouble. There are all kinds of custom textures in use, heavily used to decorate the walls with a large variety of movie posters and corporate sponsers. Kinda nice to see some unique textures. This map has lots of hallways, ladders, and battle areas. A nice church complete with a steeple. A strange warehouse like room with stairs. All kinds of mix-mash here, but I think in Bagman mode you would be too busy doing your thang. We tried it in DM mode with 8 players... Didn't rack up too many kills due to the enormous size. I like the details, and Bagman servers should give it a try.

Gangsta Island-Revised (Gangsta_Island_rev.bsp) --- by Hogie : A large number of revisions have been done to this map, and I would say most if not all are for the better. This map plays great with 8 players and should easily handle 16. Grab this update, and replace the original --- have fun.

Fight on Saturday Night (fsn.bsp) --- by Nodule (FREEbsp) : A KP brawl in a disco dance studio... Nice colored disco lights, bar, upstairs and downstairs party areas. Problem is this map plays for shit due to high R_SPEEDS, they average well over 1500, and this really crushes the 28/56k modem users, let alone people playing on sub-P3 machines. It is a good map, we play it, but we do so knowing lag, and sluggishness will be a standard part of game play. I wish they would go back and make some changes to speed-up the Rs...

Cemetary-beta (cemetary.bsp) --- by Catbones and JWS : Another Halloween themed map. Grave yards, deadly pumpkins, booby trapped coffins, under ground crypts, and other spookiness. By far this is the authors' best work to date, they have been improving their mapping skills with each release. Grab this map if you are in the mood for some spooky play. Awaiting the final to see what we get as extras. As usual with these authors there are a truckload of custom textures used throughout the map.

Looking for all these NEW maps?? Well they probably won't show up on the PV-MA until sometime Sunday. It will take me some time to get them all wrapped up and released. Until then, feel free to join our server to sample the new fun.

More preview screenshots of the upcoming Gothikka by LOCO!=3DFX= and ControL=3DFX= are in the BattlePix section. We got an early beta to play with and sent back nothing but positive feedback. Played great, ran smooth, we can't wait for the rest.

CLARIFICATION: The GZ_GETSPACE/overflow errors I have reported previously on maps such as MOSH PIT and QUAD TOWERS(beta) were NEVER the result of running the Competition-MOD. In fact, Papa the lead coder spent time tweaking the Xatrix code in an attempt to eliminate the errors --- some of his changes have helped. Just one more reason to run this MOD. We run ours in public deathmatch mode (non-match) mainly for the MOTD and countdown functions.

Updated the files section with our current server configuration files, and map listings. Did you make a map? Is it on our lists? If not you might drop us a line to see why. BTW, the master list broke the 100+ map barrier today!!

School-BETA (school.bsp) --- by {HAVOC}sLob_kiLla : Bringing reality a little too close to fantasy??? Here comes School in final beta. Remember Columbine? Well this battle field is the interior of a school, and offers various areas of play: swimming pool, cafeteria, class rooms, gymnasium and more. Not a bad map, not a great map, but it is not final yet. This map uses a lot of the unreleased Xatrix textures, and the ones he did use are included. This author has several other maps in the works, find a sneak peek to his upcoming Junkyard map in our BattlePix section.

Abandoned Subway (subway-v2.bsp) --- by davidbelanger@hotmail.com : Our server beta tested this map last week, and David took some suggestions to heart and finalized the map. This map revolves around a dark and abandoned subway station. Close quarter combat in a lot of areas, and many tiny crawlspaces are scattered throughout various access points. This is his first map, and in some areas it shows, but that's how we learn. Send David feedback in English or French and give him some positive ideas for his next map. We always need more mappers.

REMINDER: Monday through Thursday is [BC]'s "Master Maps" cycle -- this means just about every map released for DM (and some Bagman) is being played. Beta's replaced with finals, or maps just absolutely unplayable are usually removed from the playlist. If you think you are getting bored with KP due to lack of maps, then you need to leave your current server and visit ours. Friday through Sunday is [BC]'s "Best of the Best" -- this is what "we" consider the best in play/serious fragage maps. CAVEAT: When new maps do come out, they get added to the playlist automatically, regardless of what day it is... so don't hesitate to stop by and have some fun.

REMINDER #2: Mappers. I am not going to aggressively hunt your new maps down anymore as I don't have the time to scour all the various KP sites. If you have a new map to release, or a beta to be tested just drop me a line (truz@cap-n-yo-ass.com) with a URL to download the map, or just zip it up and email it over. As everyone knows we will test any and all maps, Bagman or DM -- at the same time I will make sure they get added to the PoisonVille-Map Archives which will help spread your map to the world. Please let me know whether a map is beta or consider final, so it can be stored correctly in the PV-MA file system. Players, if you run across a map that we don't have (check our master list) drop us a line with the .BSP name and the file if possible.

BC's Quad Towers (bc_quadtowers.bsp) --- by Truzenzuzex[BC] : Finally released. This map is done in "KP" style and features a walled in battlefield with 4 three-story buildings. A nice waste sewage slime pit in the middle houses the infamous HMG. Barb-wire and very tall brick walls enclose the map keeping everyone inside where they should be. Look for it on PV-MA, or our personal maps archive. Some nice screenshots can be found here also...

Crowbar Arena (mexrad_crowbar.bsp) --- by Mexican Radio : A small level for crowbar matches... Not really small compared to the other "arena" maps out, but very fun. A serious beatdown is occasionally needed for those HMG freaks, and this map is it. See the nice picture below, or even more in the BattlePix section. This map is a keeper, and will be added to our "Best of the Best" playlist.

I ask for Halloween and I get some nice preview screenshots from a soon to be released map. Gothikka by LOCO!=3DFX= and ControL=3DFX= should be out within a few days. Hats off to Dirk Digg1er, Chuck, tommy Black, XP-BigDaddy_MB, FALLEN_[TALON] and last but not least saydan for putting up with new map testing and MOD fiddling this week. These guys are just a small list of our regular players, but also some of the very best in gameplay and good sportsmanship. This group is a regular joy to kill, or be killed by and provide some entertaining chat during matchplay. Running a server is much like being a bartender, plenty of regulars to "shoot" the shit with...

A junior welcome to SassyBoy[BC] who has joined the [BC] Crew effective Sunday 10/16. Junior members on the team are our sons and daughters... this lets us take out a "beating" on the kids without a call to Social Services. Believe it or not our juniors range from 5 to 12 years in age, yes 5. Don't get me started on violence in video games, proper parenting is all that is required. On the other hand, when your 5 year old son (TJ_Nator[BC] is chasing his Mom (JADE[BC] thru a Kingpin level screaming "Stop Mom! I wanna shoot you!" it sorta brings a chill into the air. My motto: "The family that kills together, stays together..."

Team Havoc-Beta2 (team_havoc_beta2.bsp) --- by Mexican Radio : Loaded this up and played in DM mode, even though it is a Bagman map. Looks very nice, no negative comments from any of the players. Everything that was wrong or off was listed in the readme.txt. Look forward to seeing the final version.

Well today was supposed to be the release day for Truzenzuzex[BC]'s Quad Towers and DMtnt Meets BC final versions. Unfortunately a 1-hour power outage this A.M. screwed 8 hours of compiling time on both of the machines... UPS power only lasts so long even with the monitors turned off :(

While working on our maps and helping a couple of other aspiring mappers, I have found some more flaws in the Xatrix released KINGPIN.DEF files... I already fixed them once, and I guess I will make a few more fixes and re-re-release my update. Stay tuned.

Where are those Halloween maps several groups were clammering about being released?? I need a horror fix!!

Ooops!: Friday night at 6pm EST was supposed to be a OGL match between THC and SB running on our server, but for some reason things just didn't work out even before the gangs showed up. Match moved to another server. I also failed to properly put the server back into public mode for about an hour, small typo in the server.cfg... Sorry folks.

In the future if clans want to have a 4-on-4 OGL match, just give me a 3+ day notice and test my server beforehand from both sides to make sure pings are fair. I am usually available M-F 5pm-11pm EST, and it varies on the weekend. I can get the server prepped and privatized for a lil 45-60 min match. But remember, we are the DM kings of new map rotation, so OGL matches won't be frequent until we have a separate server for that purpose.

LocoMall (Locamall.bsp) --- by ControL=3DFX= : Chatted with the author on ICQ today and got one of his newest maps that I somehow missed. He has several more in the works including some MOD work, so expect more from this guy. This is supposed to be a 1-on-1, or 2-on-2 map but we played it with a full 8 players for some serious fragage. A nice local mall setting, with stores, fountains, multi-levels, very nice detail without sacrificing R_Speeds. Grab it from PV-MA.

The new v1.1 of the Competition MOD is working just fine now. As usual, I'm a feature hound and will want more :) Lamont|LSC was kind enough to stop by our server and give me a tour of the match functions. Personally I look forward to playing some TeamDM with game ending at 500 total team frags... should be about a 12 min game on Armagon -grin-

Late last night we were testing the newest Competition MOD v1.10 (which was pulled from public release for some more bug fixes) -- it worked virtually flawless for us, except for a map re-download bug that occured for 2 maps, but then went away. Below are a couple screen shots showing off the MOTD (message of the day) and timelimit clock functions. You also get a nice aerial screenshot of BC's Quad Towers-beta#35, just as my head is blown off by Elric -- yet again.   Wednesday - 1999.10.13 - 3:18pm EST - update by Ganthet and BStewart  
The CAP-N-YO-ASS game server will be moving. Truzenzuzex[BC] and The Jackal[BC] are currently setting up and testing a new box. This new machine will be moving (unless all hell breaks lose, or that pre-Y2K bug hits us) to an ISP on the West Coast (physically located at the ISP), and pipe speed will be T1 to start, and hopefully T3/OC-12 later on. If things work out properly we plan on running at least 2 KP servers on the box: one with a 16-24 player limit using our "Best of the Best" map list, and another 8 player server for "New Map" testing, and or matches/feuds.

Once Zed|LSC implements my desired GSlogs format into the Competition-MOD we will practically be set for life -grin-

We are currently running the new Competition-MOD, but mostly just running it in public mode. We just received email about an upcoming new version. Here's a snippet: "Also, version 1.1 of the competition mod is just about done... It incorporates a "Message of the Day" feature (as per your folks request :), and puts the countdown-start and HUD clock in public games, not just matchmode...The countdown start should be helpful for HPBs, as folks with faster connects won't have 15 seconds to run around grabbing goodies while everyone else is still connecting. Beta v1.1 is currently playable from LSC's game server (lsc.lamont.org)"

The Lost Well-v2 (THE_LOST_WELLv2.bsp) --- by [THC]-Bun : Haven't tried it, but loaded it to the PV-MA site; we will have it up and running this evening on the game server. Here are Bun's notes: I fixed this map up a little, my first. I put in more repawn spots and took out crowbar at top of well.. some of you know why.. also 1 more secret and another way up top. If you like it replace the old (the_lost_well.bsp) in you rotation. Personally I enjoy the crowbar wars in the first version, nothing like a good solid thump to the head!!

HELP! Truzenzuzex[BC] is having trouble with his Quad Towers map. He has completely rebuilt all 4 buildings, and shrunk the open area about 50 feet, lowering the overall brush count of the map by about 100, and it lowered the VIS memory compile requirements by 18meg... Problem is -- he is stilling get SZ_GETSPACE errors/overflows on quick-vis (-fast) compiles. The game plays fine on final-vis compile, but on the server it logs numerous SZ_GETSPACE/msg OVERFLOWS during the game... MOSHPIT has the same problem, and a few other maps in our rotation. Does someone have a good reference URL/info on what this bullshit message is, and how to resolve??? Contact Truzenzuzex[BC] at truz@cap-n-yo-ass.com SZ_GETSPACE errors seem to cause undo/unwarranted lag in the game for players... about 3 of our most popular maps in rotation seem to have this problem.

DrEaMsDoA[BC] has pumped out two more logos for us, (logo#8) featuring our clan leader in his popular PowerPuff (Blossom) outfit, and himself in the other (logo#9). Viewable on Wednesdays, or from the master logos page... He said this logo was created after being severely beaten by Truzenzuzex[BC] on several consecutive maps. I must note that after Truzenzuzex[BC] left the match Saydan took over with the thumping. Saydan is one deadly ass bastard, fear his HMG -- side note: he hates flamethrowers, use this knowledge wisely. Got some many logos now, I guess we will have to convert to a banner-logo rotation script.

Due to stupid/childish DoS/Ping flooding/ICMP attacks I have had to shutdown the server a few times in the last 36 hours. Firewall software has been installed and is logging all connections.

The game server is currently up and running, and we have loaded the "COMP" mod though I have not had time to try its features out... Hey Lamont|LSC, come give me a feature/function tour of your mod...

In all our hacker-wanna-be chaos there have been several new maps released:

BC's Quad Towers (beta #27) (bc_quad_beta27.bsp) --- by Truzenzuzex[BC] : Picture 4, three story buildings, a bit of darkness (aren't ALL BC maps inherently dark -grin-), a painful barbwire fence and wall (borrowed and mod'd from Crushaville East), a nasty green sewage water pit, great spawn points, and lovely rooftop rocket battles. YES, the r_speeds get a bit high, thats the nature of this level, but very playable -- Hey BloodKnight-HIT - i did move the buildings closer on beta#27. More beta's to follow, I think i have to rebuild the buildings from scratch to eliminate some nasty SZ_GETSPACE errors... Once i fix it I may release a 2 building version just to see the r_speeds lower.

Steal The Cash-revised (STCr.bsp) --- by Intruder : Intended as a Bagman, but will work in DM with enough people. He has revised the spawnpoints after I whined about our DM whoes, and added an intermission screen to boot.

Whatever (whatever.bsp) --- by FuZzYNuTz{STZ} : a SiN conversion, lava-licious...NOT!, it flows okay, but everything seems to center around the HMG room for some reason. Not bad, sure do WISH the lava was water instead, i prefer drowning.

RoofTopMadness (rooftopmad.bsp) --- by Intruder : DM map, 6-8 story buildings, roof top battles - provided you can get up top, there are secret ladders that make life much easier

Sorry for the slow updates. We have been busy working our "real" jobs, with plenty of OverTime this week. It has been semi-slow in the map department also. We do have a few to talk about though... We are trying to get a fatter pipe for our server, hopefully before Halloween we will be able to host both a 16 and 8 player game on different ports.

SIMPLE MOD WANTED: Okay, I can't do it, but I know someone can. I need a few simple functions not provided in Kingpin:

1. Someone needs to take the publicly available GSlogMod code (made for Q2 mods) and incorporate into Kingpin so that "true" log files can be generated. Then we can make kick ass Fragtats or GibStats, just like my fave Q2 server shows here... Those are nice detailed stats, and I wanna have them for our server. I know AEStats is out, but I hate the output, and without GSlogs you can not get "true" stats. Renderman (aka DailyRecord) and TheCLQ provide server pinging stats, but they are far from 100% accurate, and you can not get the "who killed the most with a pipe" stat from these services.

2. Need a modified MAPS.LST routine, here is what I would like to see it do:

Any field set with a * would mean default, do not override; default setting coming from either server.cfg or the map itself. (d) map mode, switch between Deathmatch, RealMode, BagMan, and Team Deathmatch on the fly per level. Be nice to support the mods here as well when they arrive (e) DMFLAGs for the level, override the server default for a level. This would be very handy for Turbo's KPAirlines which needs a 796, while all my other maps live nicely with 788. (f) Override the TIMELIMIT for a map if desired (g) Override the FRAGLIMIT for a map if desired (h) Provide the ability to display a message PER map, much like the MOTD, handy for mappers to give clues or intentions of a level. Also handy for admins to remind people there are 3 secret rooms, or other niceities.
3. Someone to activate the MOTD.TXT file which Ridah didn't have time. Those running dedicated-busy servers sure do miss this MESSAGE OF THE DAY function. This message should be displayed when player joins the server, and then wait for a key before dumping into the game. This would give us a chance to pimp our game server website, game rules, etc, very nice for telling people where they can get skins, maps, and the very popular stats for the server. If possible it would be nice to spit the MOTD.TXT out to players when they receive a SERVER FULL message also, more pimping for your server. This might also help promote players to download maps from the websites compressed, saving on download and lag times.

4. Personally I would use the MOTD.TXT and MAPMESSAGE.TXT file to let people know game server web site, rules, and I would tag on the top 10 players (from my live stats), so that everytime a new map cropped up you would know your rank overall on our game server.

5. Naturally as you make this simple LOG/MOTD/MAP control mod the ability to rotate thru the maps RANDOMLY would be a nice feature.

6. So WHO can do this??? We would be happy to start beta testing it tomorrow morning :)

Crushaville East (cvdm2.bsp) --- by Bain (of Crushaville) : These guys are producing the best polished maps in true-KP style at this moment. This map features an outside loading dock type area, with a nifty underground the boardwalk crawlspace. HMG's hanging out on roof top ledges, warehouse room fights, dumpsters with rockets and much more. The level design promotes great flow. The HMG and GL have switched positions in the final, which helps tremendously with the HMG->Spawnpoint sniping the beta had.)

ArenaSin-beta (arenasin-beta.bsp) --- by FuzzyNutz : Fuzzy says this is a remake of his favorite SiN level, which I can't confirm as I nevered played SiN multiplayer. This map is a large open arena with towers in each corner, trenches running criss-cross, a raised platform in the very middle of the map featuring the HMG. Several prefabs are used effectively, including the Radio City truck housing a full suit of armor. The distance between one side of the map and the other is about 20 feet to far making it impossible to snipe targets all the way across--hopefully Fuzzy will pull the walls in a bit, or provide some blocking walls to eliminate this problem. Not a bad start for a map.

Old Desert Dog (odd.bsp) --- by K : He has taken his Taking Turf-beta and converted/modified it into a smaller Bagman map. We played this in DM mode and had a good time. Plenty of building to run in and out of, a fenced off middle area forcing you to go underground to get from complex to complex and a nice assortment of weapons. Never did find the HMG myself, but did get thrased by Elric who knew where it was. A lil big for our 8 player DM server, but fun none-the-less. This map is a vast improvement over the Turf-beta, as he has learned a few more tricks.

Nod Cupola --- by the FREEBSP boyz : an wild ride. this map sports a large variety of structures, and hidey holes. Plenty of weapons, ammo, and health saturate the map. It is a large map, so bring on the crowds. They have gotten creative and created "fake" water... looks like water, kinda sounds like water, but you can shoot in it; making for some surprise kills)

Well82BM --- by Intruder/Avenger : is a Q2-Well8-CTF conversion. It is very moody and dark, nice color coding lets you know which base you are in. He has converted it to a bagman map now, and should work just fine. We tested it in DM mode and it played pretty good. NOTE: Don't climb in the safes... they don't open from the inside)

Elroy has updated his camo-shotgun skins with a few fixes. The filename has been changed to reflect this update.

As always we have updated our skins directory on the game server. I believe we are in excess over 85 meg of custom skins now.

A big welcome to The Jackal[BC] who joins our ranks today. A die-hard good natured killer. He has been a thorn in our side for months, if you can't beat'em, recruit'em... He rounds out our crew nicely.

DMtnt Meets BC-finabeta (by Truzenzuzex[BC]: This map has been final beta for weeks, but I have not had time to do a few touch ups and recompile. It is an extended version of eT's DMtnt (the very first custom map ever made for KP, during the DEMO days; he also made the famous KPpirate), where you can actually get into some of the buildings. We have also created a few side hallways that lead into our basketball court room. All weapons make an appearance now, and some good rooftop fun can be had. I really enjoy drowning people who go scuba diving for the bazooka; can you say stand on their head (grin). Hopefully i will get this finished this week.

Bloody Clouds 2 (by A.Youngblood: simplicity to the extreme. A large 500x500 foot room, with floating platforms. Gravity set 1/10th normal, and every weapon, and armor within 10 feet of a spawn point. A free-fall HMG frag fest! Very enjoyable torching someone while flying thru the air also.)

King of the Hill-v1 (a =AC=AstroRon & Reign Joint: has been updated per player requests. The electric switch is now on a timer, and you can get up the very top for GL access. The map plays much better now which the few tweaks they did. The BSP filename was correctly changed, this version is "kingofhill_1.bsp" - grab it now.

The Lost Well (by unknown: a nice vertical promoting level, keep moving up for better items. A nice spawnpoint at the top of the well where you can crowbar the shit out of people, or take a 4 story plunge into the well to gain access to the remainder of the level. Nice hidie holes, great GL placement, and a fireplace to boot!)

KPfragpipe_beta1 (by Shredder[THC]: the first beta of this classic Q2 [Q2dm3] - map, no KP-look textures yet, just plain jane concrete. Very playable. Now if we could just convince MUSCLE not to camp @ the HMG.)

Elroy, a regular on our server, sent in his first draft for a camo shotgun skin... Needs a few tweaks (skin setup, and weapon look while on the floor during game), but looks very nice when you are armed and chasing Saydan down the hallway. You can find a screenshot of the camo skin our our Battle Pix section.

The NEWEST MAPS/FILES are available for download from my old domain until i can get TUX-ftp access thru Poisonville.

KPdm11 (by Control3dfx: Not to get it confused with dm11, it iss the same map but has been updated. It has got a different look now.)

Xatrix has finally released v1.21 including the 1.21 SDK (for developers), you can find it listed in our links section below. Now that 1.21 is out, I can finally pressure Xatrix to fix the ongoing MSVCRT.DLL crash several Win98 servers are having when running hot and heavy with custom maps for long periods of time.

  Wednesday - 1999.09.29 - 11:59pm CST - update by BStewart
MoshPit (author unknown: a very nice interior map, cool hallways, stairs, every hallway is lite by flame/candles, very nice flow generating a nice quick frag count. Only problem are a few clipping/voidish issues at certain angles looking thru a few doorways, but very minor.)

Funhouse (by Avenger/Intruder: wicked looking shit, imagine a funhouse/q2/KP style -- all kinds of weird looking rooms and spinning obstacles. I like this one. A/I says this map is a tribute to all the mappers/and folks in the edit forums for helping out. Good luck getting the HMG, nice trapped room - might be possible with 2 people cooperating, but i doubt it. Good fun stuff.)

King of the Hill (a =AC=AstroRon & Reign Joint: A concept map - everything is geared towards making you move up and vertical trying to take the tower. The tower has a switch that electricutes (4-5 pts dmg) everyone on the level [needs a timer], very nice details, cool light switches with multi-colors. Very nice r_speeds. Played with =AC=AstroRon on the map, might be a version 2 later with fixes suggested by our die-hard players. Has a very good Kingpin look to the leve. Overall 3 thumbs up.

Sudden Death (by Optimizer: a slick ass Q2 conversion is out and final. This level rocks, I have personally logged THOUSANDS of kills on this level. Check out the screenshot of the VERY first final version game played on our server below. Someone named Truzenzuzex[BC] whipped the shit out of everyone else 45 to 17! EDITOR'S NOTE: Truz got his assed kicked (by 7 points) the next game after everyone learned the layout of the level.

KPKiller (from Opti, he knows we really enjoy Armagon! And a nice secret room to boot, good luck finding it),
DM11 (by Control=3DFX=?, received anonymous via email, possible a Q2 map conversion, but has a urban-ish look to it),
DMnyte (beta - by DemoNyte, actually kinda fun, be nice once the outside building textures have a LITTLE bit more variety),
Mauled (final by Intruder - NOTE: players you will need to delete your old Mauled.BSP since the server will not overwrite the old beta)
CVdm1 (Crushaville South-final, not bad, VERY much in true KP style, great details),
TC_03 (by Tanya, interesting layout, a nice electric floor in one area),

I had a chance to wander around Optimizer's upcoming Sudden Death map, and can't wait to play it. Another Q2 conversion map, but boy does it look sweet... I must have logged 3000+ frags on that Q2/Lithium level.

PLEA TO MAP MAKERS: I don't how many times I have to say this. Map makers, you *MUST* name your beta/pre-final maps properly. Such as "Mauled-beta1", or "Warzone-beta2"; keeping the same name only causes massive problems with the game players (aka your ultimate fans). Kingpin supports long filenames, use them! If you REVISE a map, then label it when you release it--such as "Bazooka-v4". Players, if receive a "error: local map version differs from server" message then that means the server has a different (probably newer) version of the map. Go delete (or rename) the existing map file and try connecting again.

TIP OF THE DAY: See someone online with a kick-ass skin that you want to use: type "skins" at the console and you will get a nice detailed listing listing everyone's name, model type, and skin codes. Easier than trying to ask someone during the battle.

Our Powerpuff skins seem to be a hit, we were amazed at the number of cute little cartoon killers that were running around within 12 hours of the skin pack release.

Sorry for the server downtime on Monday evening. Some kind of GPF with MSVCRT.DLL crashing the Kingpin server, problem reported to Ridah. Seems fine "now", but trying to pin the problem down.

SERVER BUG ALERT: As of the latest 1.20 it seems that .WAV files associated with custom maps are NOT being sent to players. This has been reported to Ridah and waiting to see what needs to be fixed (client or server) to get these working. OPTIMIZER maps (dmarena3, warzone, 007) are all known maps with sounds, so if you want the FULL effect grab them from a web site and install. If anyone knows how to get .WAV files working in the current 1.20 server configuration gives us a yell at truz@cap-n-yo-ass.com

We loaded EIGHT more maps... some older TEAM maps for added variety, and naturally some new DM maps also: Team Castles (not bad in DM mode), Green Hornet's HQ (very colorful, nice trip switches, some egyptian looking areas also), Team Housing (oldie but new for our server), Pillbox Massacre (v3, we havent played it since beta days), The Fortress (Intruder's, missed this one since we thought it was the same as the OTHER fortress, nice details, pretty fun, sorry 'bout not loading it Intruder!), Team Urban Wars (nagged, so we loaded it), Facility (another N64 conversion, pretty fun shit -- we really enjoyed this map), and Taking Turf Beta (a Bagman-Team map, has potential. K. just needs to close in the wide gaps so you can see from tower to tower, some more lights, and the usual touch-ups, nice start)

Sorry for the laggy server Monday night, monthly tape backups MUST be done. Your favorite gaming host is a very busy production Informix-SQL (14gig) database server during the day, so we gotta place nice.

WANTED: A new FATTER pipe to host our server, we are currently on a fractional (768k/up/down). All we need is ftp access, and remote control (telnet, or PCanywhere) to allow a tight ship. Someone sitting on a FULL T-1 or better, DSL or Cable will not do unless they are "business" class accounts. This server has become so popular our usual 8 player limit is just too restricting... we would like more pipe! Contact us if you think you can help. We would need legitimate access, not hacked or on-the-sly accounts, we do not want any legal troubles. Naturally the PC must be capable of running KP, a compatible 3D card is required EVEN for dedicated mode.

QUESTION: Been experimenting with TEAM DEATHMATCH off and on, let me know what you think about it. Frags are still frags, but kinda nice to have a team mate that can help out and not kill you on accident (friendly fire is disabled).

MAP TIP: Did you know there is a SECRET room in Bolt's Tower Arena map??? It ain't easy to find. Ask a [BC] Crew member to show it to you next time its loaded; if you are lucky you may get the grand tour.

RE-CamoPowa (Revised Camper Power) is online, and in my opinion only slightly improved. On the plus side it is STILL in the playlist unlike other low quality maps.

Mansion has been online all weekend, and is a "different" look. Not a great make, not a crappy map, but entertaining at times. All the furniture and objects seem about 125% of normal size though...

Warzone(beta1 by Optimizer) has been online for a few days and is a HUGE level. The airstrike/bunker is fun, along with the sounds and new textures. BIG NOTE: If you are not hearing music, and the airstrike then grab the file from one of the map download sites and install manually. Hopefully beta2 or final will be released as this really is a nice level.

The maps keep a flowing... Bring it on baby; the more the better! Tower Arena-beta#5 (love this one!), Holy Crane (HUGE, i mean HUGE, can't find crane, its missing from tower!) and Put Up or Shut Up! (pretty nice)... And NO I have not put DMTnt Meets BC-beta#5 on the web yet, won't until I get beta#6 compiled... grab it from the game server if you want it for now.

A tasteless, but interesting new skin: "Spoo Bitch - Porn Star by day, Gang-Banger by night" is in our lil skins section. Nothing special, a hack of Shizo's nude. Apparently Dick couldn't get them (Westside) to host it...

Speaking of skins, if you have GANG/CLAN skins available, and they are NOT on Westside @ PlanetKingpin, let me know. I can put them here. We like having all the skins ready and waiting on our game servers. [BC] Crew's custom skins are in the works. Truz has finalized the Bitch layout, but has not made each female team member's jersey yet. Thugs/Runts will get a skin eventually. Girlz Rule!

"Southwestern Bell can SUCK MY HAIRY ASS! " -- after scheduling and wasting 3 hours with the SWBell technician our buddy Freddy[BC] was told his phone lines are not good enough. No solution yet, what a bunch of fuck heads. They already did an engineering check before coming out to say that his lines WERE capable of DSL. Another part-time crew member RogueWarrior[BC] was told for $900 SWBell would fix his phone lines. This just further proves that SWBell is STILL the worst telco in the USA, with ALMOST the highest billing rates.

KP patch 1.19b is out, please grab this as it solves the Invisible player bug many people have experienced. Plus allows faster map downloading.

A truckload of new maps have been loaded onto our server, several lame, some very good. We are leaving them all for the moment. We have RE-loaded SICK CITY (sickre) onto our server from the originals, apparently our copy was messed up and causing conflicts with other servers. DMTurbo1 has been reloaded (a new beta) copy, but we are still awaiting the final Falkenstein map for this level. Sunken City has been replaced with version 2, some tweaks.

Our server has temporarily (we hope) been migrated to a CABLE-based host, seems to play well even with the ping times being about 10% higher than the old server. If anyone has a host that can volunteer its 512K or faster connection please contact us.

KP patch 1.17c is out. Server admins PLEASE upgrade, it fixes client connect problems in the plain 1.17 release.

LIGHT and SENNDM1 - Hello City have been loaded. We are not real fond of LIGHT, but hey its a change.

[BC]'s new beta maps are still in the works, currently trying to finalize the harbor/wharf/dock section of the map... should be fun.

Ridah's changes to REAL mode kinda BITE. Really throws off your RENDERMAN stats. I will see if we can get RENDER to make a seperate REALMODE category like he did for BAGMAN. Until stats are tracked better in REALMODE we will not be playing it that much... only by request.

PIRATE (a HUGE ass download) and BCBETA16 are loaded now. The BETA map is very small, but just testing to see how the "king of the mountain" tower works, expect more updates to the map this weekend.

Added our server to Renderman's stats server, see STATS link below, at least until we get our own logging and stats running.

We loaded WAREHOUSE ANNIHILATION, which bites it big time... the only thing saving it from complete removal is the fact that it is new, and the weapon placement is not that bad. DMTurbo-beta is removed until it becomes final.

1.15d is now out, time to upgrade. Ridah has implemented several server changes/fixes I have suggested, which is pretty nice.

HEADSHOT is supposed to be revised by the author soon to include the missing JUNIOR entities, and maybe a few bug fixes. We will replace our map once it is released.

Played the new HEADSHOT & DMTURBO1-beta0727 maps last night. Headshot was not bad, a bit small for more than 3 people, but nice. The beta for DMTurbo looks good, nice castle layout, we will continue loading new versions as they come out.

Patch level 1.15beta seems to work just fine, server has been upgraded. Ridah has cut the nickname display to 12 characters, was 15. He says it was trimmed to be nice to people running on 640x480 displays.

WAREHOUSE TORMENT and HEADSHOT-revision2 are now online for play. As usual all our server maps are available for download from this website instead of fighting the PlanetKingpin mirror nightmare. The old HEADSHOT map has been deleted. BStewart worked with Paul the map maker on HEADSHOT, to get JUNIOR entities added which help "light" the players and gun-models, otherwise no other changes.

If you haven't taken the time to VOTE on the above map, please take a second. We won't change our poll until at least 50 people vote, or we have a better topic.

We are alternating our server between GANGBANG (deathmatch) and REALMODE -- depending on our moods. Join on in. REALMODE is a serious blast on several of the smaller maps.

We will be loading a few new maps and a truckload of new skins today, should make for a nice variety when playing.

We have a new map titled HEADSHOT from a guy named Paul in the UK. Will load it on the server today, see the file area for a download link.

We have received about 3 dozen emails since yesterday from players stating they are having little or no trouble jumping on crates in the MADNESS map. Most are wondering what Bob was smoking when he reviewed the map. Everyone seemed to enjoy the review, just thought the map deserved a little better treatment--not much but a little.

[BC]'s FLASHLIGHT MADNESS map is once again in the news. That's the second time in a week it has made front page news on PlanetKingpin, and it made it on Kingpin World also. Pretty popular map considering how bad Hawaiian_Bob beat it up in his review. Oh well, early maps always get knocked, but guess what? There ain't no other's out are there?

My [BC]'s FLASHLIGHT MADNESS DM map has finally been reviewed by The Warehouse on PlanetKingpin. I received a whopping 31 out of 100. Not bad for my first map in 3 years. Bob curiously has some serious box jumping issues, I think his legs just might be too short. You can read the review right here.
